Dry Needling

Quicker and more effective results than massage, deliverying safe, reliable and predictable results

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a highly effective treatment that uses fine filaments (acupuncture needles) to deactivate and desensitize myofascial trigger points which can be the cause of muscular pain.

Myofascial trigger points also commonly known as knots within a muscle can be characterised as tight, torte bands within the muscle that are tender when touched firmly. They can create local and referred muscular pain.

Dry needling is frequently used at Showgrounds Village Podiatry with a combination of other treatment modalities to deliver the best possible result for our patients.

Dry needling

Dry needling can be used in the treatment of many muscular conditions that might normally be treated with deep tissue or sports massage. One of the advantages of including dry needling in a treatment plan is that in our experience it delivers quicker and more effective results than massage. Dry needling also provides safe, reliable and predictable results for our patients.

This means we can provide safe and successful treatment plans that require less appointments and less time in our clinic so that you can get back to enjoying your life sooner.

Dry needling uses very fine filaments (acupuncture needles). Because the filaments are so fine they cause little discomfort passing through the skin and muscle. When the filament reaches a myofascial trigger point in the muscle a short, quick cramping sensation maybe felt. When this sensation occurs it is good because we know we have caused a reaction that will help deactivate the myofascial trigger point.

After dry needling it is normal to feel soreness or heaviness within the muscles treated for up to 48 hours. The sensation is very similar to what you experience if you have gone for a long walk or run and the next days your legs feel tired.

For many of our patients they find dry needling is a short, fast treatment in comparison to deep tissue massage which may take 30 minutes to treat one area. It can also be more tolerable and effective than deep tissue massage.
